about
The Highest is the debut release from The Nix, very much a collective endeavour featuring Nick McCarthy, formerly of Franz Ferdinand.
Written by Sergio Russek and Kwamie Liv and featuring Kwamie’s beautiful vocal, the track is the product of The Nix’s inclusive approach to writing and recording.
“I met Sergio about a year before we both started playing in bands and touring the world,” explained Nick. “We met at a friend of a friend’s house in Mexico. I was on a backpacking tour with my soon-to-be wife Manuela in Mexico. Sergio and I stayed in touch and we’ve played shows together and started recording together now as well.”
“Kwamie Liv is from a totally different place. I saw her video for ‘Lost In The Girl’ and decided to contact her and she wrote back. Then she booked her trip to London and we spent two days recording her beautiful voice. Zambian-Danish seems to be the magic mix.”
The track was recorded in Sausage Studios, Hackney, Nick’s studio he set up with his old friend and talented musician / producer Seb Kellig with the intention of writing and recording music in a way they wanted and worked for them.
“You can hear Seb’s dub production skills all over this track. He’s taken me to Higher Places, going to dub nights in East London. All ages, all types of people from all over the world, all night long and this is one of the tracks that bears the fruit of these beautiful, very bright nights,” said Nick.

Well, does it live up to the hype? It's okay, not as good as 'Loops' or the 'Fenella' stuff; i doubt i'll be listening to it in full very often.
Her mojo is waneing in my 'umble opinion. vykr
